The Neighborhood
Experience life in Blue Bell, a short drive from downtown Philly.
Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, is a quiet suburb in the Whitpain Township nested in Montgomery County just 18 miles northwest from downtown Philadelphia, with a rich, vibrant history almost as old as America itself. But don't be mistaken, this town is far from being a sleepy hamlet.
With a population just north of 6,000, Blue Bell was originally known as Pigeontown, named after the large flocks of the now-extinct passenger pigeons that used to gather there. In 1840 the town changed its name to Blue Bell after the town's main inn (which once played host to George Washington). The Inn was fully restored in 2013 and still serves guests today.
Blue Bell is more than inns and pigeons to be sure. The town is also known for its large executive-style mansions, major business parks, community shopping facilities, small-town haunts, and local businesses. However, it also serves as the global headquarters of the tech giant, Unisys.
Just a short drive from downtown Philadelphia's many shops, restaurants, museums, theaters, sports arenas, and historical destinations. If you're heading to the City of Brotherly Love for an authentic Philly Cheesesteak, swing by the Rocky statue on your way to Liberty Hall and don't forget to grab a selfie at the Liberty Bell before catching a Phillies or 76ers game.
Blue Bell is one of the most affluent areas outside the Main Line communities in the Philadelphia area. In fact, in July 2005, Money magazine ranked Blue Bell 14th on its list of the “100 Best Places to Live in the United States.” Kind of says it all doesn’t it?

Historical Relevance Lives Here
Since the city of Philadelphia played such a pivotal role in the Revolutionary War, towns like Blue Bell often played a significant part to play too. After the Americans’ defeat by the British at the Battle of Germantown, their troops — and the future president George Washington as well — retreated to the Blue Bell area to regroup and strategize in safety. It’s estimated that, including non-soldiers, Washington’s camp likely consisted of more than 15,000 personnel.
