While big-city Chicago may be the first place that comes to mind, most of Illinois is marked by farmland, forests, rolling hills, and wetlands. Opportunities for summer boating, winter snowshoeing, spring hiking, and fall leaf-peeping abound! One can enjoy fine dining in Chicago or take in classic deep-dish pizza and hot dogs. Illinois is also home to the first McDonald’s, the start of Route 66, gorgeous Lake Michigan and Chicago’s outstanding architecture, including the 1,451-ft. Willis Tower and the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower.
