The Monterey Aquarium and Cannery Row
The city of Carmel, California, is just about ten minutes from Monterey by direct route on CA-1. In roughly an hour's drive via the scenic 17-mile drive, the breathtaking coastal route goes past Pebble Beach Golf Course and The Lodge at Pebble Beach. Monterey’s legendary Cannery Row is the waterfront district that was the setting for a John Steinbeck novel. This shopper’s paradise is full of shops and seafood restaurants.

Pebble Beach Golf Course
Overlooking the famous 18th hole at the Pebble Beach Golf Links is The Lodge at Pebble Beach. This monolithic five-star historic landmark hotel offers luxurious guest rooms and unbeatablel views of Carmel Bay. The Pebble Beach Golf Links are considered one of the country's premier public golf courses, which has played host to six United States Open Championships.

Walk or Drive Scenic Road
Tour an oceanfront one-way road that runs parallel to Carmel Beach and beyond. Scenic Road is a captivating drive. On one side is the majesty of the Pacific Ocean, and on the other side are stunning Carmel homes. There’s also a bluff path that runs along the beach, parallel to the road, perfect for a walk, with awesome views of the waves and the beach below.

About Carmel, California
Carmel, also called Carmel-by-the-Sea, is in Monterey County in western California. It lies on the Carmel River and Carmel Bay, adjacent to Monterey, at the northern edge of the Big Sur region. The river was named by the Spanish explorer Sebastián Vizcaíno and a group of Carmelite friars in 1602.
The nearby Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Río Carmelo was founded in 1770 at Monterey by the Spanish Franciscan missionary Junípero Serra; it was moved to the Carmel area in 1771, and Serra is buried in the sanctuary. The city, which was founded in 1904 as an art colony, has few sidewalks or street signs and has a wide mixture of architectural styles. Carmel’s economy is dominated by tourism, led by its several fantastic wineries.
